It was only a matter of time till some one tries this - social bicycles (got to say I prefer this to the name “SoBi”, a bit too close to sobbing that) is using the power of mobile internet/GPS to rent you a bike. Bikes will be traceable online, hence won’t really need biking stations, you can find the closest one using your mobile phone and pay for it online. And you can drop it off pretty much wherever.

This is being tested in NYC. If bikes don’t get destroyed quickly and broadband costs won’t put the enterprise under - hit in the making.
